FDA Warns Consumers to Immediately
Stop Using Hydroxycut Products
On May 1, 2009, the FDA alerted consumers to immediately cease
using Hydroxycut Products. According to the FDA, Hydroxycut has been
linked to serious liver injuries including death. The makers of Hydroxycut,
Iovate Health Sciences, Inc. of Oakville, Ontario and distrubter Iovate Health
Sciences USA Inc. have agreed to recall all Hydroxycut products from the market.
Hydroxycut products linked to liver

The FDA has received 23 reports of serious health problems
ranging from jaundice and elevated liver enzymes, an indicator of potential
liver injury, to liver damage requiring liver transplant. The FDA has also
received reports of one death linked to Hydroxycut products. Hydroxycut
products can also cause other serious health problems including seizures,
cardiovascular disorders; and rhabdomyolysis, a type of muscle damage that can
lead to other serious health problems like kidney failure.
Hydroxycut can cause serious liver injuries at the doses recommended on the bottle. Symptoms of liver
damage include:
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes);
- brown urine

nausea and/or vomiting;
- light-colored stools;
- excessive fatigue;
- weakness;
- itching;
- loss of appetite; and
- stomach or abdominal pain

- Hydroxycut Carb Control
- Hydroxycut Natural
Consumers who have any of the Hydroxycut products involved in the recall should stop using them and return them to the place of purchase.
